2010 NFL Preview of the AFC and NFC West
Well these two divisions well be less than competitive. The AFC West is pretty much wrapped up for the season. The Broncos made it interesting for a while last season but the house of cards fell.
[picappgallerysingle id="9550219"]
The San Diego Chargers should easily win the West. Although they lost LT, it will be ok. Obviously, I am just kidding. Philip Rivers is the most underrated QB in the game right now. He makes good decisions and doesn’t make the big turnover. I do miss the rivalry he and Jay Cutler had. Chargers win it at 10-6.
[picappgallerysingle id="9574422"]
The Chiefs, Raiders, and Broncos are eons behind the leader. The Broncos are a seven or eight win team. They’ll win a big one and lose a daisy. The Chiefs won’t win anything special, although; I am a Matt Cassel fan. Oakland is better than they’ll ever get credit for. I really like their defense. However, both KC and the Raiders are sub six win teams.
The NFC West will be difficult to watch. The two time defending Cardinals have NO chance to win it. Or do they? I anticipate an 8-8 team to take it. That team- San Francisco. I don’t enjoy watching Alex Smith play football but he’s better than the rest. It used to be a no brainer that the Seahawks would win the West.
[picappgallerysingle id="9648512"]
Now, I can’t really count on the oft injured Matt Hasselback. The running game in Seattle is atrocious. I’ll take my chances with Mke Singletary and the running game they throw out there. The Cardinals and Rams aren’t worth talking about. Sam Bradford, good luck! He’ll be injured by week eight. And as for a Warner-less Arizona squad, there won’t be any playoff games like the one you had with Green Bay last season.

The Never Ending Story: Based on a Brett Favre Biography
Is ESPN running reruns? No, Brett Favre is. I wish I could laugh and enjoy the Brett Favre saga but the fact is; I’m that one guy. I hate Brett Favre.
[picappgallerysingle id="315521"]
He’s overrated and overhyped. They all love him! Skip Bayless, ESPN, Vikings, Packers, Jets, and Roger Goodell. Let’s start with overhyped. It’s easy. No quarterback has demanded more ESPN time than Favre. The oft seen SportsCenter Favre-orate is always an offseason topic. Will he or won’t he. I wish he’d just come out and say hey guys I’ll be there for week one.
[picappgallerysingle id="6056812"]
Instead, Favre enjoys the media. He gets together with high school football teams to toss around the pigskin in front of teenagers biting at the teeth and photographers paying the bills. He’ll give a wink or two in his bootcut Wranglers. It makes me sick. I bet he writes a book and they turn it into a movie.
[picappgallerysingle id="858673"]
Then there’s the overrated part. all-time leader in- yards, TDs, games played in a row, wins, and it goes on. However I look at two categories that go hand-in-hand. He leads anyone and everyone in interceptions. But if he throws them here and there you can deal with that. My problem, the big time picks.
[picappgallerysingle id="858868"]
In Super Bowl XXXII we saw a good one. It was the Packers chance to repeat and for fans to see a torch passing. The young Brett Favre was to take down the old John Elway who could never win the big game. Instead, no one will ever forget a missed wide open middle-of-the-field pass which Favre overthrew by 6 yards. It would have been to the house, Denver had blown the coverage. I understand Favre was coming off his Super Bowl victory a year before but the Pack-attack was an 11.5 point favorite.
[picappgallerysingle id="4423201"]
Since the turn of the century, Favre has thrown one more touchdown than interceptions (19-18) in the postseason. In 2008, there was the New York collapse to go along with 22 picks (remember how hot he started). And of course, I head what people are saying. Last year Brett Favre was the ageless wonder; he was amazing!!! But…come on…do I dare point it out? His last throw of the season was what some coaches would call…ill advised.
[picappgallerysingle id="858150"]
In closing, does anyone know how the Jets and Packers are doing without the all-time leader in picks?
Saint Diego
San Diego is winning the West. They have to be a big surprise to you. Their record, 22-12, is an outstanding ten above .500! What has got into them?
[picappgallerysingle id="3157045"]
You can talk basics, Adrian Gonzalez has a handful of homers and RBIs. They have that killer bullpen that every good teams yearns for. But the big surprises are the guys we have no idea who they are. Take Chase Headley. Last year he was a .260 outfielder at one point. Now he’s over .300 and plays third. Jon Garland is back to rare form with a low ones ERA and a 4-2 record. We know who he is I guess but I sure didn’t think he had a lot left in the tank.
[picappgallerysingle id="8661591"]
Who is Wade LeBlanc? Well he’s Allowed five earned runs in 28 innings. I do know who Clayton Richard is but I didn’t think he’s already have 40 plus innings pitched with an ERA of 3.21. Oh, and I guess Scott Hariston has six home runs this year too.
I don’t know how they are winning really because the team batting average is terrible. Nevertheless, Strike One!
[picappgallerysingle id="8721119"]
I saw a recent poll on Yahoo asking whether Lawrence Taylor should be stripped of his Hall of Fame status because of his recent predicament. Let’s debate.
[picappgallerysingle id="8605047"]
If he’s convicted, meaning if he did it, then I’m not so sure he shouldn’t have to return that gold jacket. You see, some things in sports are held to a high standard. When you are in that hall you are there because you did it and fore the most part did it the right way.
Yeah, there are some jackasses out there. Hotdogs, cocky young guns, and bitter old veterans all sometimes get in the Hall because of gaudy numbers. But are we saying cold hard criminals should too. If he raped this girl, which isn’t very debatable because of the age factor, than why does he get to keep his honors. I’m not in charge and I’d hate to be the one who is but I wouldn’t be too shocked if Mr. Goodell looks into this. STRIKE TWO!
I’m often told I never admit when I’m wrong. Well, that’s because I consider to be right about a lot of sports stuff. But for fun, I read through some old articles to see what I’ve been wrong about so far…
The Cavs won’t win in five or six games versus the Celtics.
The Seattle Mariners are struggling now in shape for an AL West title.
The Astros just swept the Cardinals.
Brandon Marshall will not be in Denver and in the same article Washington was not that tough in the tourney.
Willy Taveras has been ineffective.
Brian Giles didn’t have a good year, he retired instead.
And of course like every analyst, I thought the Colts would win it all.
Milton Bradley- Good Board Games, Bad Attitudes
Milton Bradley’s problem wasn’t Chicago (although we all knew it was a horrible fit. He’s up to his old antics after being pulled from a game yet again. Bradley decided to storm out of the stadium. Oh brother!
[picappgallerysingle id="8652984"]
I guess he is buying into the “stress-anxiety” disorder that’s been popping up around the MLB. I’ll tell you what, I’m going to take Milton’s side on this. He’s the type of guy that blows up when something goes against him. He has that intensity which can backfire. I know he has had his fair share or run-ins, but this guy got his ACL blown out by his first base coach.
[picappgallerysingle id="8715180"]
He needs to get it under control and after 12 seasons it’s a little ridiculous. Yet, Bradley is one of those athletes that lets the heat of the moment get to him and he starts to feel like everyone is out to get him. The media hates him and if he could go back to those little outbursts and change them I’m sure he would. But he can’t.
So I say cut the guy a little break. He’s admitting that he needs a little help with his stress and anger. Finally, maybe he can get it worked out. STRIKE ONE!
A couple of young guns in each baseball league have been hot hot hot. Austin Jackson has been on fire for the Tigers.
[picappgallerysingle id="8658378"]
He has the second highest batting average going into Thursday. A 369 batting avereage with a 421 OB%. He’s toasty. He isn’t a power hitter but he has nabbed five bases already this year. I’ve enjoyed his progress.
[picappgallerysingle id="8683363"]
Then there is the Cardinal David Freese. Nineteen RBIs and three homers in his first true month as a starter. The team anticipated a guy to fill a hole left by Mark DeRosa. La Russa was most likely hoping for a 270 type guy. He got a 360 one so far. Hats off to these two young players. STIKE TWO!
Tebows jersey is selling like a cold beer in hell right now. He was the number one jersey in April and everybody wants one. But here is the kicker. Is he really going to where number 15?
[picappgallerysingle id="8611974"] [picappgallerysingle id="7414550"]
Yep. Brandon Marshalls reign in Denver is over. But so is his number. Tim will take it right out of his hands and everyone with a MArshall leftover jersey is SOL. I guess that’s just the way it is. STRIKE THREE AND I’M OUT!
Tebow-McDaniels Era?
Forever the two names will be linked. Josh McDaniels and Tim Tebow
[picappgallerysingle id="8611966"]
Will he play QB, HB, or TE no one knows but I have my two cents. I think the years, not days, are numbered for Kyle Orton. He’ll get this year, unless he falters horribly. He had a great year last season and they are trying to put young talent around him. Remember the “Wild Horses” set the Broncos ran against New England last year?
[picappgallerysingle id="8611949"]
It truly stumped Big Bill B of the Patriots (but what didn’t on the road in ’09). That could be Tim’s ticket to success in year one. But I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets his shot in 2011. Orton is sitting on a one year deal. And let’s face it, Quinn? Yeah right! STRIKE ONE!
Ryan Howard is set. He won’t be the one of the big guys headed to NY or Boston in 2011. After the Phillies paid him it left some questions about other sluggers around the league.
[picappgallerysingle id="8438432"]
Adrian Gonzalez is thought to be moving at the break. BUT if the Padres can play like this until July they might have to hang onto him knowing he could leave in 2011. He is a young power-hitting first basemen who I could see in Boston.
[picappgallerysingle id="8629700"]
Then there is Albert Pujols. He isn’t going anywhere but he will see some increase in his bank account come 2012. The Cards will most likely option him next year for some 16 plus deal. But at the age of 32 he could see gaudy numbers thrown at him.
Who knows? No one. I wouldn’t be surprised if number five is our first 35 million dollar man. STRIKE TWO!
I don’t like bold statements. Especially silly ones like Pujols trades with Howard. However, could we see a week three NFL season trade of Ben Roethlisberger? Why not?
[picappgallerysingle id="8595053"]
A team like Buffalo. Nothing to lose in a division where they have nowhere to go. There is no QB that can take the helm successfully there but if a third team came in to help move Big Ben to the Bills….hey it could happen. What team would help? Cincinnati, Cleveland, and Baltimore sure would!
[picappgallerysingle id="7491430"]
Bills send picks to one of those three, they get Big Ben, and one of the (Cin, Cle, Bal) teams sends a big time player to the Steelers? It could happen. He has made them mad and they could just try a deal if Dennis Dixon could salvage a 7-9 or 8-8 season. I mean, they don’t have Ben for the first six anyways right? STRIKE THREE AND I’M OUT!
