Strike Three: Phil’s 1st Round

The only reason Phil wasn’t hoisting up a trophy was that abysmal first round.

He made his comeback but he fell short. Tiger and Ernie Els made a run too! I picked Mickelson to win it and he had a chance the last day of the tourney but he needed more than another 73. Heck, if he’d a shot another 66 he would have won.

That opening 75 is what got him. If he’d a kept that to the other 73s he would have been fine. I guess it wasn’t his Open to win, again,

Tiger made a nice little run too. He had a great third round but followed it with a +4 to end the weekend. Not good enough and they crown McDowell. Who would have guess that?

The Magician

Dwight Howard was ruthless. He did not stop until every Hawk went down in just four games.

Not that Howard was dominant in game four but he didn’t need to be. Vince Carter stole the show with 22. But did you see the series. It was gross. Now, if the Celtics and Cavs go to seven games the MAgic should come in and knock down the door. Weeks ago we were anointing LeBron for being the two time MVP and probably one time NBA Champion. Now, there’s work to be done. And who is going to stop number 12?

Howard shot nearly 85 percent from the field. He was a rebounding magician and was blocking shots left and right. It is no wonder they call him superman. But will the superman of old comedown on Dwight? Will Shaq show up and stop him? I’ll be waiting to see. Of course, Cleveland has to win first. STRIKE ONE!

Let’s talk about something fun. How bad are the Baltimore Orioles? I know. They’re awfully terribly the worst team in the AL East every year.
[picappgallerysingle id="8684883"]
Right now they stand at 9-23. Yuck. Their best pitcher is Kevin Millwood who is 76 years old. They have a bunch of guys who have had good years in 04 or 07 but were never consistent. OR, they have guys who are a little past their prime. Tejada and Garrett Atkins are prime examples. There’s adam Jones and their new rookie catcher but that’s about it. Can you name anyone in their bullpen? Cla Meredith the only mentionable.
[picappgallerysingle id="8684837"]
In 1997, the Orioles won 98 games but that’s the last time they won at least 80 games. In 2007, they finished second to last in the East which was the last time they didn’t finish last. In 2004, they finished third which was great! BUT that was the best since 1997 which brought us back to the last time they won 80 plus games.

In general, it hurts to be a fan in orange. STRIKE TWO!

Tiger Woods is losing a swing coach. It’s kind of sad really. Nothing goes right for the 14-time Major-winning champ.

Hank Haney has been around for a long time but he said in a short note he’s done. It is still rather unclear who made the final decision but Haney came out first. Woods has been in the media 100 percent of the time and this is just another setback. Tiger, can you just get this all together please? STRIKE THREE AND I’M OUT

[picappgallerysingle id="5755240"]Tiger Woods is the best and most fun player to watch on the PGA. He’s had some off field troubles and on Friday he’s going to own up. I, personally, have had enough of this stuff. Tiger, like many people, has made some mistakes and is feeling truly sorry. I don’t really care if Tiger is a sex addict or not. I want to see him put on that Green Jacket again (yes I did capitalize it). Golf without Tiger is baseball without the Yankees (you’d be missing 27 World Championships). So Tiger, on Friday hopefully most of that nation forgives you and we can get back to seeing Sunday Red (again capitalized). STRIKE ONE! (more…)
