NFL Waiver Claims

Randy Moss is a Titan and Shawne Merriman is a Buffalo Bill. I’ll start with Merriman because aren’t we all sick of hearing about the Vikings in general (Favre, Moss, Childress, inappropriate texting).

Merriman was a beast for three seasons before he disappeared into the San Diego sun. He was so good in those first few years that he cheated and got caught for steroids causing a six game suspension, still had 17 sacks. Impressive cheater. BUT he played one game in 2008-09 and only three this season. Also, he was relatively ineffective in the 2009-2010 year.

Then we have to remember the stupid dance. I rarely cheer for the New England Patriots but when they were prancing around the field doing the “Lights Out” parody who wasn’t pleased? Well, LT of the Chargers wasn’t but who cares? Not me. Merriman will be mostly ineffective for the rest of his career and I wouldn’t want him. He’s a player problem and so is Randy Moss.

Players like Merriman and Moss are cancerous for a team. I liked what Randy accomplished in New England but when he doesn’t get his way he’s a big baby. Shocking, to say the least, that Jeff Fisher would be willing to put up with this. When problem players aren’t happy they ruin team chemistry and the Titans are one of the strong playoff caliber teams. I picked them to win a wild card and they should get it.

I hope Fisher knows what he’s doing. He probably does; being the longest tenured coach. At least, he might have a better idea of what he’s doing than Mike Shanahan. Rex Grossman over McNabb? Signing the LSU failure JaMarcus Russell from Oakland? Oh boy, this could be a worse collapse in Washington than Joe Gibbs and his back to back timeouts!

2010 Preview of the AFC and NFC East

Well, the AFC East has some surprises in it. Maybe just one because I only think one team is going to the playoffs from this division. The Patriots are going to win it. Randy Moss is in his last year and will most likely kill it. Wes Welker was a good fantasy pick this year if you got him in late rounds. Don’t expect the same totals but he’s going to be effective.

I have the Pats going 10-6. The division has a tough road ahead. I think the NFC North might have their way with these guys. The Jets are not as good as people think they are. Mark Sanchise is going to throw picks and their prized corner might not be a happy camper.
[picappgallerysingle id="9580767"]
The Dolphins are a notch below the Pats and sit right about where the Jets do. I like the addition of Brandon Marshall but it isn’t enough. Oh, and the Bills are awful. They could get # 7 from Arizona.

The Cowboys are the popular pick in the NFC East and I’ll jump aboard. They’re my NFC Super Bowl team as well. This will be the year Romo finally pushes them to the next level. Dallas is 12-4.
[picappgallerysingle id="9623121"]
The Giants are my second wildcard team along with the Pack-attack as you might have recalled in my NFC North preview. It’s going to be a tough division as always but the wildcard is going to be cutthroat in both conferences. I like the Giants at 11-5 and the Skins behind them at 8-8. I think the Eagles might be a seven win team. Yuck. Shouldn’t have ditched McNabb.

On with the AFC and NFC South tomorrow!

Strike Three: The Skins Opins are in

Mike Shannahan even had a crack at the fat “defensive back.” Albert Haynesworth is nowhere to be found and the Redskins don’t seem to care. My guess is Albert is going to be paying back some of his bonus before he is released.
[picappgallerysingle id="4120616"]
That’s right they’re going to have to bite this bullet and cut him. His amazing four sacks last year don’t quite add up to his paycheck. He is out of shape, out of motivation, and soon to be out of a job. Washington is looking better now with their QB McNabb and they don’t need dumb distractions like this.
[picappgallerysingle id="6126611"]
Shannahan is likely to cut ties with the DT and move on. Haynesworth’s teammates don’t seem top be too happy with him either. As Docket of the Cardinals said, if you pay me that money I’d be working my tail off. Well, I would too. So Albert, see ya!

STRIKE THREE AND I’M OUT!

Laker Ball, Shannahan’s Skins, OK State

[picappgallerysingle id="8137339"]Does anyone think it won’t be Lakers and Cavs at end of the NBA season? The Lakers had an impressive victory (they fell behind in the third by 11). This time, it wasn’t at the hands of # 24. Kobe’s 12 assists were nice and he had 14 points too but this one was a team win. Lamar Odom chipped in 20 and 12 rebounds and the defensive machine Ron Artest had six steals to help the Lakers stay atop the West. This team is unstoppable. I don’t see any challengers. You might here a few analysts say that the Nuggets or Spurs could contend for the West. Really? I can’t wait for Kobe vs LeBron. STRIKE ONE! (more…)
